The Palk Arms was situated on Teignmouth Street. |
|
This was once a Plymouth Breweries pub and it also had a
bottling plant on site too. |

Having been born just around the corner
from The Palk Arms Public House on the Teignmouth Road, Torquay back in the
1930s , I remember that the publicans name was Griffiths and along side was
a skittle-alley with an assembly/dance room above. During the second world
war, with Hartop Road school having an influx of evacuees there were times
when we had to walk down to the assembly room for lessons. I also remember
going there for the occasional dance before I joined the navy and left
Torquay. As you already are aware it was a Plymouth Brewery pub with the
Plymouth Brewery bottling plant right next door. Underneath the pub there
was a stable probably built originally for dray-horses but I seem to
remember it being used for race-horses during the Easter weekend when racing
took place on Torquay Golf Course. Now alas it has all gone. |
