The Red Lion was situated on the Market Place.
This grade-II listed pub is now used
as a private residence. |
|
At the age of 10 I lived here when my father "Jack Lewis" was
the landlord. My mother "Di" and sister "Trish" were also here. Quite a
rough pub especially on a Saturday night. The Public Bar was mainly Gypsies
and usually included the Gypsy Queen and was mostly well behaved. The Lounge
Bar was the domain of the REME and RAOC (?), this was where most of the
trouble occurred as there were conflicts between the two army corps. |
