The licensee for the period approx summer 1962
to summer 1978 was Trudy Yarker. When she took over there was only a small
public bar with a separate lounge, in effect an adjoining room with no bar
counter. This was opened up in about 1963 to produce one large L shaped
bar, but there was no lounge at all from then. The pub was tied to JC and
RH Palmer, Brewers, Bridport. The Star
was a good old regulars pub serving Palmers IPA and Best Bitter on draught
with two Whiteways ciders in barrels too. These were supplemented by the
usual range of bottled Palmers beers and soft drinks and all the top brands
of spirits. No meals were provided, but Trudy would make fresh sandwiches to
order, ploughman's lunches and pies, the usual pub fare for the day. |

I lived in Monkton Wyld and worked for M.F.Lake. Spent
most of my spare time in this pub, many memories where made from here
and although I've moved on I would have loved to come back and see the
Star as it was. Miss all my old friends especially Mike Bouwditch, could
always drink me under the table, good man. If you remember me please get
in touch. |
