From The Good Pub Guide 1983:
High-backed wooden settles are built into the tiny bar of this lovingly preserved village pub. One is curved, and the other shields the room from the door to keep in the warmth from the huge wood-burning stove. One or two pictures, a few plates hanging on the mantelbeam, chintz curtains and, to measure your drinking time, a grandfather clock behind the bar. Well-kept Hall & Woodhouse Badger Best on handpump; reasonably priced snacks at lunchtime, such as freshly cut ploughmans. If you turn right at the top of the road at the top, you can walk up Hambledon Hill (fine views, prehistoric remains).
