The Mermaid Inn was situated on South Street. This coaching inn was present by 1823 when the publican was Mrs Sanger.

South Street was formerly Market Street. Former 19th century coaching inn now 4 flats with retail/office premises on the ground floor. By the 1927 OS map the building is not marked as a pub, inn or hotel. Various occupants include Salon Fish, Filigrana cakes and sugarcraft, Renaissance Antiques, Fox Grant estate agents, Precision Hairdressing and Sering's Beauty Salon.
