New Inn

Site of The New Inn

The New Inn was situated on Greenhill. This pub was built by Abbot Ramsam in about 1483 for the purpose of its sharing some of the burden of responsibility of the Abbey Guest Hall. It became one of Sherborne's major coaching inns It was demolished in 1842/1843 when the present terrace of houses known as Greenhill Court was built on the same site. There is a former Stable Block behind Greenhill Court incorporating in its south east side four 2-light 15th Century stone windows, and these are probably from The New Inn.
