The Wellington Inn was situated at 88 Long Street. This pub closed in the 1870s and has now been demolished.

This was originally called The Three Pigeons, but had been renamed after the Iron Duke by 1809. It closed and was demolished in around 1875, probably following a fire. In 1881, it was replaced by a new building owned by the Sherborne Coffee Tavern Company Limited. It had “a handsome furnished bar, a commodious club room and every accommodation for ladies visiting the town for shopping”. In 1894, Edwin Childs took over the coffee tavern, and later began a cycle and motor car business on the premises. If you look at the right-hand window pair, you will see that it is hinged to enable it to be opened. This was Sherborne’s first motor car show room!
