The Beehive Inn was situated on Priors Walk and is now demolished.

This was an unusual, very old pub situated between the bridge and the turning into East Borough at Walford, Wimborne. It was unusual in that it had a Cat Slide Thatched roof on the roadside with a deep gutter that ran down East Borough and into the river Allan between it and the road, the thatch nearly reached the road level. The main façade of the building faced into a Yard at the rear. There were two entrances to this, one by the Bridge and one in East Borough. The very low windows along the roadside were always caked in dirt and you could not see in. The pub was demolished in the mid to late 50’s and Tice’s Garage was built on the site. We boys used to cut through the yard on our bikes if going down East Borough. Sadly I do not have any pictures. Opposite corner was Mr Caves grocery shop and opposite a Furniture Depository with a tall chimney, original use unknown to me.

I was 2 weeks old when my parents moved into Mill House in September 1957, so I grew up on that corner between the two mills, water and steam. I remember the Beehive being there, but all I can remember is that it was unusually thatched and in dreadful repair. Possibly the roof had fallen in. My guess is that it was demolished in about 1960, but Tices was built immediately,

My grandparents, (Hilda and Jack Tilley)helped run this pub along with my great grandfather, (Hiscock)Great Grandad also ran the bicycle shop in the town square next to the Kings’s Head Hotel. He was also said to have run the first taxi service in the town. His family had also kept the Furzehill Post Office. My father, Phil Tilley, remembered the Gypsies helping to make the cider down in the orchard. My mother cleaned for Nick Sharpe’s mother and had been a bridesmaid at Mr. Cave’s wedding.
