From The Good Pub Guide 1983: |
The surprise
here is the remarkable collection of malt whiskies - the last thing you'd
have expected from this plain-looking but friendly stone pub. There are over
200, including different-aged versions of the great malts, and prices are
fair. More humbly, it has well-kept McKewans's 70/- and 80/- and Younger's
No. 3 on handpump and good, reasonably priced basket meals such as scampi
(£1.65), lasagne (£1.75), chicken Kiev and trout (£2), various curries
(£1.20). There is a fruit machine. The countryside along this road is a
fierce blend of coaltips and beautifully forested hills. |
