The Alkali was situated on Swinburne
Street. This pub was present by 1839 when the publican was John Lamb.
Rebuilt in 1899, it was also known as The Zenith. Made famous as the pub
where Catherine Cookson's grandfather would send her to get his jug of beer,
it is now used as a children's nursery. |
