A pub called the Maypole stood where Fulwell Cross Medical Centre now stands on the junction of Tomswood Hill and Fencepiece Road. Sometime in the 20th century it was demolished and a replacement pub the Old Maypole was built further along Fencepiece Road at the junction with New North Road. This pub closed in 1933, the same year as the replacement pub, The Old Maypole, was built in Hainault.
