Drill House

The Drill House uses to be at Stamford Rivers. It closed in the late 1990's, but had opened in 1847, when it was at first just a house with a small tap room. It soon was turned into a full pub.
My parents and me started going there in the late 1960's and I was taking mum there until just a few years before it closed.
It was a very busy, much used pub, my parents went there once a week for a meal in the 1970's and 80's. I too often went there with friends.
All through the 1960's, 1970's until 1989 it was run by Peter & Jane, They had two donkeys in their adjoining field. The pub was across the fields from Greensted Church, just outside Chipping Ongar.
It is now a private house.
