Colne Lodge

The Colne Lodge was situated at 103-105 Crouch Street.

This pub had four bars – left hand hippies, right hand punks, upstairs ‘cocktail bar’ with Colchester’s first big screen video (Constant showings of Thriller, Howard Jones, Donna Summer) and a pool room. It was the only place to drink and hang out in Colchester, the only place to buy or sell illegal substances, and had the best Jukebox in town. (‘Let’s Dance’ by Bowie played over 20 times one night. My teenage home from home. My band played gigs in the cocktail bar – and fabulous nights they were.
