The Oak or Old Hainault Oak as it was also known was at 710 New North Road. This was at the easternmost end of New North
Road at the junction
with Romford Road. It was demolished in the late 1990s or early 2000s and
housing built on the site. The Old Hainault Oak name is still used for the
bus stop. |

I went with my then boyfriend - Noel Murphy - a well-known folk singer
wh played golf at the nearby range where I weekend waitressed. He played
piano & we had free drinks all evening. My future husband & i used the
pub regularly. It was THE most wonderful hostelry - the landlord knew a
lot of us were underage but, as long as we behaved respectfully, he was
kindness itself. The local bobby would appear just before closing time!
Very happy days |
