Name Dates Comments
Duncan Gillies 1965/1966 I am a Kiwi who was at sea and used to drink with a lot of Irishmen in the Public bar. I have many fond memories of that time. I was in Digs at the time just around the corner.
David Alcock 1958/1974 I remember the landlady and her husband. He in smart suit and tie and she in a cocktail dress as if they were at a smart party. Barmaids Lil and Nell, in waitress uniform were beloved of all customers and took no nonsense. Dudley Moore once played jazz piano there bar in the early 60's. The vast saloon bar was smart with a sit down restaurant and bar food. I started work at Ilford Ltd in 1958 just across the road.
Nick Cook 1956/1968 My parents ran the pub during these times, and their names were Ken and Margaret cook. Also re the other comment about the public bar, the main character amongst the Irish customers was known as the sherriff, they say it was because he had an acre of land and a cow in Eire.
Nigel Giddings 1963/1966 Friend of Nick Cook went to school with son of manager. stayed at this pub upstairs on weekends. went to cranbrook College with him.
