My brother-in-law's parents ran this
pub in the early-to-mid 1970's. Their names were Flo and Stan, and they had
a huge boxer dog called Rastus, who was very friendly, but a terrible
glutton, and would single out anyone eating pub grub, hoping for a
'contribution'. My sister Sue had her wedding reception upstairs in the pub
in the autumn of 1975, which was a very happy event, and although I was too
young to drink, I had many happy evenings in the pub with my parents, Sue
and Alf, my brother-in-law, and Flo and Stan. In the hot summer of 1976, we
would have a lock-in on a Saturday night, and two policemen would appear
around one in the morning, and although they were on duty, they would sit
drinking vodkas, and telling us stories about their 'adventures'. I have
some wonderful memories of the old pub, and I hope this info is of interest. |

My dad always told us that his mother
was born in The Rose and Crown in Ilford. She was born in the room with the
round window in, I think, 1906. Her name was Eileen Perry. I always think of
her when I drive past. |
