Rose & Crown

The Rose & Crown was situated at 16 Ilford Hill.

This pub closed in early 2005. It is still closed and there is no indication visible as to what will happen to it.

My brother-in-law's parents ran this pub in the early-to-mid 1970's. Their names were Flo and Stan, and they had a huge boxer dog called Rastus, who was very friendly, but a terrible glutton, and would single out anyone eating pub grub, hoping for a 'contribution'. My sister Sue had her wedding reception upstairs in the pub in the autumn of 1975, which was a very happy event, and although I was too young to drink, I had many happy evenings in the pub with my parents, Sue and Alf, my brother-in-law, and Flo and Stan. In the hot summer of 1976, we would have a lock-in on a Saturday night, and two policemen would appear around one in the morning, and although they were on duty, they would sit drinking vodkas, and telling us stories about their 'adventures'. I have some wonderful memories of the old pub, and I hope this info is of interest.

My dad always told us that his mother was born in The Rose and Crown in Ilford. She was born in the room with the round window in, I think, 1906. Her name was Eileen Perry. I always think of her when I drive past.
