Royal Oak

Site of The Royal Oak, 2012

The Royal Oak was located at 90 Victoria Road. It was closed in October 1985 and later demolished to enable the building of a ring road system around Romford town centre. It was situated where Thurloe Gardens cuts across Victoria road (where the white car is in the above photo).

My Camra branch (SW Essex) tried to save this gem. They served Charrington IPA (not wonderful but also an acquired taste) and Crown bitter. I recall speaking at a hearing. Shame it was demolished, Romford was not over burdened with good pubs.
