White Hart

The White Hart was situated on Harwich Road. This pub was built in the 17th century and closed in 2002.

A cock-fighting pit is hidden in this public house, making it one of only two pubs in England that has an original cock-fighting pit.  The White Hart is a Grade II listed building and has many historical artefacts, including a 15th century wooden carved mantelpiece and two priest holes.
As you are aware the pub closed in 2002 and it has stood empty ever since as the current owner who purchased the pub in 2002 wants to develop the site for housing.  The pub is weatherboarded and is not being maintained.  So far two planning applications have been rejected and we are waiting the outcome of a third application.
I am trying very hard, writing to various agencies and breweries, to purchase the pub so that it can be restored to its former glory and  thrive once again as a lively restaurant/pub.  It is on the A120 Wix bypass, close to the port of Harwich.  It also has planning permission on site for a 36 bedroom motel.
The White Hart is for sale and Fleurets are marketing as "offers invited".
