The Cavern

The Cavern was situated on New Street. This was one of the oldest pubs in Cheltenham, an old coaching inn, when it originally opened as The Compasses in the 1820's. It was renamed The Cavern, and briefly went under the name of Nostalgia before reverting back to The Cavern. In more recent times it was a popular venue for live music, and was known as the place to go, to listen to Country and Western bands. Unfortunately it became a victim of the smoking ban and the easy purchase of cheap supermarket alcohol. The Cavern finally shut in April 2010 and is earmarked to be converted into flats, like the former Bath House next door.
