The Bunch Of Grapes was situated at 159 Woodend Road. This pub closed in
1936. it used to be in the ownership of Arnold Perrett & co which was
later taken over by the Cheltenham Original Brewing Company. William Allan
was the landlord when it closed. After closure the building was a hardware
store and then a dentists before becoming a private residence in the 1970's. |

My mum Mary Victoria Brown was born in the Bunch
of Grapes in 1924 her father John Brown ran the business at that time, my
mum shared the accomodation with her brother's Ken, Harold and Douglas and
her mother and mother's sister Emily. John Brown also used to travel and run
bars at sporting events, my mum recalls camping on Doncaster race course
while her dad ran a bar. My mum later moved to Fishponds and many years
later returned to live in Coalpit Heath from 1963 to 1996. She had cousins
at Henfield (Dick, Cliff and Bert Hollyer). She passed away in 1999. |
