The Hop Poles was situated at 2 Mount
Pleasant Road. This was a grade-II listed
pub. |
|
I grew up in Alton from 1951 to 1967.
As a teenager I lived with my Mother, Lily Holley, in Mount Pleasant Road,
forget the number but it was a small general store opposite Ron and Sue
Thorne the Undertakers. I went to Eggars Grammar School and The Hop Poles
was probably the first pub I had an illicit drink in! |

The pub is now flats though in
it's last years it became a music video type of place , a permanent racket.
Some liked it I guess but clearly not enough. |
