The Anchor was situated on Riverside. This pub has now been converted to flats and a doctors surgery.

The Anchor was marked on a map in 1794. In 'Kelly's Directory of Hampshire & Isle of Wight, 1898' the owner is listed as Frederick, Charles, Mears. According to my Dad who used the pub the Wright's had the pub in the late 40s and early 50s, they had two daughters. G & G Wellman had the Anchor Inn before The Leigh Hotel, Eastleigh. It is a bulky building and is still standing, now converted into flats. It is situated  below the 'Angler's inn' and next to what was in the forties Densley's Fish and chip shop  and later Smart's Fish Saloon which was owned by Peter and Wyn Pellerade who owned it from 1952 to the early 60s when it was demolished to make room for flats. The site never got used but has recently been developed into a doctors surgery ('The Old Anchor Surgery'). You could buy fish and chips and more often as a lad a pennyworth of scraps which sometimes had a few chips in with them all wrapped in 'real' newspaper. On the gable is relief lettering 'Ye Anchor'; the word Anchor is split by a shield upon which is a pronounced letter 'S'. Confirmation has been received that this was a Strong's house.
