The Anchor
|
|
|
|
The Anchor was situated at 66 London Road. |
|
Situated on the old A3 London to Portsmouth Road, the pub was
a modest mid Victorian house with extensions on the ground floor, little
changed from inter war photographs, although latterly with garish blue and
white external decoration, one of several ‘makeovers’ attempting to improve
image and trade. After standing empty the pub was demolished and the narrow
roadside site was completely cleared in the spring of 2012. Construction of
a terrace of small contemporary houses soon followed. Just down the road the
former Gales brewery was standing empty prior to demolition, and, with the
exception of the iconic brewery tower, redevelopment with housing and some
new facilities for Horndean. |
