The
Malthouse was situated on the High Street.
This grade-II listed 18th century Whitbread pub was still open c1960 and is now in residential use. |
|
My great aunt and uncle Alf and Ethel Brown ran
this pub in the 1940s and early 1950s and it was here my parents met when my
mother who was cook for the Chrystal family at Meonstoke House used to visit
her aunt and uncle on her night off and my father was a regular. Alf died in
1950 and Ethel later left and the pub was taken on by Mr and Mrs Tilbury and
later by the Nash family. |
