The Milton Hotel was situated
adjacent to the railway station. It was built ca. 1890 when
the railway was opened and demolished c1985 and housing has now been
built on the site. I believe that footballer Charlie George was the landlord
for a time. |

The Milton Hotel was built circa 1888 for a
Winchester brewer Mr Hugh Wyeth. The hotel was ideally-located next to the
railway station which had opened that same year. Many people were coming to
the area by train to purchase plots of land both at Barton-on-Sea and in the
vicinity of the hotel as two country estates had been sold off and
developers were building houses. The pub was known as The Speckled Trout
prior to its closure in 2017 and subsequent demolition. |
