I lived in the sun Inn, Rake, Hampshire. From July 1961 to July 1964 I arrived as a sixteen year old and worked on a farm in Milland four miles away and got there by bicycle and as you can see that covered the winter of 1962/63; which made for an interesting journey. What I did learn is that alcohol can turn a sensible and interesting person into a bigoted idiots to two hours, so I have treated drinking to excess with strict caution. I did take up smoking while I was there but I gave it up when I was twenty one, so living in a pub was not all good. I remember Kenny Ball dropping in to use the phone once and sharing a room with Batt Baker a Forestry Worker. I joined various pub games such as darts, bar billiards and playing cribbage.
