The Anchor

The Anchor was situated on East Street. This traditional pub closed c2010 and is due to be demolished to make way for a new supermarket. Originally known as The Oriental Arms in the 1860s, it became The Anchor Stores under the Anchor Brewery. It was then bought by Scrase's Star Brewery when it was renamed The Anchor. Subsequently purchased by Strongs, then Whitbread.
