The ChamberlayneArms was situated at 1 Alfred Street at the junction with Exmoor Road and Fanshawe Street. My grandparents, followed by my parents, were landlords there from the late twenties through to 1949, excluding the war years when Strongs Brewery appointed a temporary manager. I lived there from 1938 until we left in 1949. The building was demolished In 1964 when the Royal South Hants Hospital expanded and neighbouring properties and sites, destroyed by war-time bombing, were swallowed by the enormous development.
