Whites Home

The Whites Home was situated on Princes Street. This pub was originally used as a general store in the late 1890s, becoming a pub in the early 1900s. It was named after the first publican, Tom White and closed in February 1958. Demolished shortly afterwards to make way for area redevelopment.

Tom Peckham 1950s I was a founder member of a very good jazz club at that establishment. The jazz club was held in a hall situated upstairs which was entered from a stair case at the rear of the public house. I seem to recall that the beer sold was Mann's. Many a great jazz session was held there.
