Belonging to the Rectory of St Mary’s Church the first record of this building being used as a pub was in 1856 when Dan Hatcher a local boat builder was the landlord. On 31st December 1938 Eldridge Pope’s Dorchester Brewery brought the pub having rented it since 1879 . It closed in 1993 after being ransacked and vandalised by burglars.

My Dad (Malcolm Allen - brothers Gordon & Pete) grew up in the Yacht Tavern. Here's his engraved cigarette case below - the only thing of his I kept after his death in 2013. He worked at Southampton Docks before taking on his own pub in 1970. I faintly remember Bert (or Herbert- he was a German immigrant and I believe changed our Germanic surname to Allen to avoid persecution during the wars) and his second wife Ella. Sadly Rose died before I was born. Julie (who also posted here) is my cousin but we've not met yet.
