The Abbot John was situated on the High Street,

This pub seemed to commemorate Abbot John of
Wheathampstead who was Abbot of St Albans between 1420 and 1465 (in spite of
Wheathampstead parish belonging to the Abbey of Westminster, which disputed
the ownership of Nomansland with St Albans). Today he is commemorated in
Abbott John Mews, oddly with two 't's. |
