The George & Dragon was situated at
1 The
Green. This grade-II listed pub is
now in residential use. |

Grade II* Listed 15th and 16th century house
formerly the George and Dragon Inn. Cross-wing re-roofed and walls raised in
height in the 16th century. Grade II Listed Black Horse Cottage to
north-west is a 16th century extension of the cross-wing. It is the oldest
surviving house in the parish dating from around 1500. A 2013 heritage
statement reports it was on Huntingdonshire District Council's Buildings at
Risk Register for a number of years, graded category 4 in the 2007 list.
Consequently the rebuilding of the prominent 17th century chimney stack was
approved in 2014. A search of the directories I have for the George & Dragon
found; 1839 John Meadows; 1854 James Wilson (innkeeper); 1862 George Green;
1885 William Cranfield (P.H.); 1898-1914 Mrs Eliza Crain (P.H.). |
