The Lion Hotel was situated on the
High Street and closed in February 1989. This grade-II listed
pub has now been converted into flats. |

Hotel dated ER 1731 on plaque.
Original L-plan of 3 storeys with bands between floors, and C19 3-storey
addition to west of front range with a common facade. Low pitched C19 hipped
slate roof with deep eaves. Three stacks. C18 main range of 3 bays has hung
sash windows with glazing bars in original flush wooden frames with
segmental arches of gauged brick. TwoCl9 windows at first and second floors
of later addition, are recessed with key blocks in cambered arches. Two
large ground floor windows, one with rusticated brick jambs and cornice.
