The Three Horseshoes was situated on
Church Street. This grade-II listed
pub is now a private dwelling, named
Horseshoe Cottage,
having closed in 1922. This pub was present by the 1830s when the publican
was John Stokes. |

I was born in Woodhurst (Huntingdon) in 1938. My birthplace was the old
thatched house purchased in 1922 by my grandparents - it had been the
Horseshoes pub until that time. My grandparents told me it was called "The
3 Horseshoes" when they bought it (for £200!), but that may be incorrect.
It was sold as a pub to another buyer the previous year for £400.00, but for
my grandparents it was a retirement home. There were two large bread ovens
and a lead water pump inside the house. The garbage dump contained many
broken clay pipes and beer? bottles (the type with glass "marbles" in the
neck). |
