Good Intent

The Good Intent was situated on New Road. Closed in the mid 1990s, it is now used as an Indian restaurant.

Two brothers, Vic and Tony Pitt, lived at this pub in the late 1950s, early 1960s, presumably because their parents managed it. Both were outstanding Jazz musicians, Vic was a bass player and spent very long periods with Kenny Ball and then Chris Barber while Tony was with all the name bands including Acker Bilk.

Nev Andrews 1965/1970 The pub was run by Harry and his wife Toots. Harry was employed by Wimpey Construction who were working at the Isle Of Grain. Through this nearly all of his customers were Irish construction workers from Wimpeys building the Power Station.. They were a great bunch of guys and had a great Darts Team. The Pub itself had no spirit licence and was beer only. Although my wife always had her G and T there.
