Sun Hotel

The Sun Hotel was situated at 85 High Street. This pub was previously known as The Sun Inn & York Hotel. Publican from 1838 was Edward Winch.

In 1941 my parents stayed at the Sun Inn Chatham when my father was posted down there. The landlady demanded to see my mother’s pay book to prove they were married as she wasn’t having soldiers getting up to any ‘funny business’ in her rooms. It was 18/- a night B&B so after two visits they moved to the Commercial Hotel where the price was only 10/6.
