The White Horse was situated on Broad Lane. The original White Horse was on
The Street until c1930. It was destroyed by fire in 1982. |

In another form, the standard of the
ancient Saxons; hence the emblem of Kent. A white horse galloping is the
device of the House of Hanover and it is said many a "Royal (Stuart) Oak"
became "White Horse" practically overnight in the 18th century, when the
coming of a new dynasty suggested the inn should emulate the Vicar of Bray. |
