My grandparents on my Dad's side, Charles and Gladys
Welling owned and ran the Two Bells in Canterbury Road from 1954 until
about 1972. After selling the pub they moved to a small house also in
Folkestone to retire. |

My parents Charles and Gladys Welling were
landlords of the Two Bells for 18 years. It was a good working class
pub. They ran a good house and they were highly respected. The pub was
busy, especially when the travelling fair came to town. My Mum and Dad
retired in 1972 to enjoy a happy retirement in their little in Walton
Manor Close. They now lie together in Hawkinge. |

Graham is my cousin and my brothers and I used to spend
many happy months each summer with our Grandparents who ran the pub. He
had a thriving vegetable garden and I helped Nanny she'll the peas as
well as working behind the bar (doing the washing up)Its so sad it is so
rundown ..I too hope someone pucks up the gauntlet and runs with it. It
was a happy place to be and extremely popular..always full. |
