The White Lion was situated at 70
Cheriton High Street. |
|
The White Lion was much used by the Irish
labourers who were building the Dungeness Nuclear Power Stations on Romney
Marsh during the 1960’s. If you wanted a Saturday night punch-up, it was the
place to go. In the bar there was a small (2’ high) statue of Matthew Webb,
the first recorded man to swim the English Channel to France. I wonder where
it is now? |
