The Shalders Arms was situated on the  corner of Richmond Road and Pier Road. This pub was unique in that the saloon entered from Richmond Roadd was higher than the public bar entered from Pier Road. To move from saloon to public bar required a descent of 2 or 3 steps. The Shalders was demolished in the late 1960's and replaced with a block of sheltered senior citizens accommodation which bears the name Shalders Court.
