Call Boy

The Call Boy was situated on Harmer Street. This pub was built in 1953, replacing the demolished Assembly Rooms pub. Now used as a bar called Liquorice.
My grandparents were the first publicans of this pub about 1954. It was called The Call Boy because it was built on the site of the old theatre. I spent a lot of my childhood there and have many wonderful memories of it. They left about 1962/3

Shepherd Neame closed this pub in 2008 along with a lot of their others. It reopened as Bar Liquorice a year later, closing down in 2012. Now used as Angels, a gay brasserie/bar.
