The Toll Gate Inn was situated on Watling Street. This pub was present on Watling Street by 1824.  It was rebuilt in the 1920s following road-widening and gradually increased in size to take advantage of its prominent position on what was becoming a major roadway.  By the 1990s it was huge and had been rebranded as the Tollgate Motel.   It closed in 2010 or 2011.
