Bridge Tavern

The Bridge Tavern was situated on Church Street.

The Bridge Tavern was one of 3 pubs in Hoo village centre (the others being the Five Bells and The Chequers) all within 100 yards (or so) of each other. It was quite usual to have a beer in one pub then see friends walking into another pub, put a beer mat over your pint, go to the next pub, have a beer and return for your original pint… There was no trouble with mixing beers as all 3 pubs were Courage Pubs!

On a personal note it was in the Salon Bar of the Bridge Tavern that I proposed to my wife. That was in 1983 and over 30 years later we are still together! The Landlord at the time was Noel Aloysius O’Shae (the spelling may not be right). Many a great evening in there playing Darts and listening to the jukebox.
