The Bat & Ball was situated on the HIgh Street and is now in residential use. This pub closed in 2010.

My Grandfather Alf Arnold was the landlord in the early 50s. He was also a policeman but ran a busy pub. My mum used to help out. Her sister worked Saturdays at Whitehead the butchers next door. My mum used to help with the cricket teas at the pub. Alf was from London. It was a Whitbread pub in those days.
