The Men Of Kent was situated on the
A2, High Street near its junction with Meresborough Road (left) and Otterham
Quay Lane (right). The name of the pub reflects the fact that those born
east of the river Medway are known as Men (or Maids) of Kent, whereas those
from west of the river are Kentish Men (or Maids). Rainham has grown in all
directions and is prime commuter belt for London. This pub closed in 2009. |

Used to live round the corner on Blackthorne Road. Shepherd Neame beer
(usually cloudy but tasted OK). Thing I remember most was going in after
work for a couple of pints, studying the racing form for the evening
races, then getting on the blower and having a £10 win double. A lot of
dough in those days and still the biggest bet I've ever made. It came
up! Cause for general celebrations and a brand new overcoat. |
