The Military Tavern was situated on Military Road. This pub closed in 1963. |
|
The Military Tavern was in Military Road
opposite the War Memorial and diagonally opposite the Fleur de Lis. My
Grandad was the Sandgate Baker and lived above his shop in the High Street
next door but one to the Fleur de Lis. I remember my Grandad would “pop
across the road” sometimes for a drink in the Military Tavern. He and
Everyone I knew in Sandgate referred to it as “The Hole in the Wall”, nobody
referred to it as The Military Tavern. |
