The Eight Bells was situated at 43 High Street. This grade-II listed pub closed in 2007 and was converted to a Cafe Rouge.

 
Now reopened as The Hoof & Hook, a gastro pub.

Listed building details:
A C15 timber-framed building refronted in the C18 but with the timbering still visible in the side facing Bells Lane. The front elevation is of 2 storeys and attic painted brick. Cornice and parapet. 3 sashes with glazing bars missing. 2 small bay windows on ground and 1st floors. Modern public house front on ground floor between them. The building extends back a long way and on the east side the 1st floor projects on the protruding ends of the floor joists and curved brackets with a moulded bressumer at the north end of this front. The north corner of the 1st floor is studded but the ground floor below it and the whole of the rest of this side is now fronted with weatherboarding. Modern casement windows. The rear elevation has a portion with 2 gables and Venetian windows and there is also a weatherboarded stable.
