Halfway House

The Halfway House was situated at 123 Whiteacre Road.

This pub has now reopened.
David Thornton (October 2016)

The pub shut suddenly and was eventually sold to become a convenience store. The entire interior - which was remarkably Gothic and ornate in places - was gutted and on several occasions I noticed that it even had all the shelving fitted. It was a shop, simple as. Then work on the place stopped for a long time. Suddenly it was a hive of activity again and, to my astonishment, it reopened as a pub. All of the shop fittings had been removed and a new bar had been built. Unfortunately, the interior is no longer of architectural interest, but hey ho. How many pubs do you know that are closed, converted to a shop, and reopened as a pub? Not many, I warrant.
