The Railway was situated on
Church Street. This pub closed
in late July / early August 2011 and was shut down after all attempts by the
owner of the building to keep it as a public house failed. Having closed
down then reopened once or twice from 2010 - 2011 the owners had now taken
the decision due to the terrible state of the pub trade.

This pub began as the Scotch Laddie, displaying
a signboard of a kilted Scot. With the coming of the steam engine it changed
its name in the 1850's to the Engine Inn. When the railway opened in 1870 it
became the Railway Hotel. In 1855 the first group of Primitive Methodists
met in an upstairs room. |
