My father and mother, Ronald and Barbara Deakin,
were landlords of this pub. I think they had it from the late 1960s to early
1970s approximately and even though I was only about 8 or 9 I used to
remember we had a monkey, a parrot and even a horse. It used to get really
busy in the evenings. My dad used to get Tommy Ash drunk and take him home,
knock on his door and leave him there so his wife would find him. Always
remember the funny times. We went to school here also and used to go to the
cinema and market at the weekends. It was quite a spooky place to live and I
remember lots of places to hide out as kids do. There was a doorway type of
thing in one of the walls near the stairs and we used to go in and play in
there. Quite eerie now looking back at it. |

My friend Irene Puukko was an
aupair at Barbara and Ron Deakins house and pub The Anchor. I visited
there a couple of times in 1970. I met their kids too. Graham must have
been one of them. Would be nice to get in contact with any of the Deakin
family. |
